Technically, Akron won the American Professional Football Association as the league was renamed he National Football League in 1922.

Akron finished the year with a record of 8-0-3.  There were no playoffs till 1932.  Instead teams voted at the end of the year with each team having 1 vote.  This system caused controversy just as the NCAA had for years prior to going to a Bowl System.  Both the Decatur Staleys (10-1-2) and the Buffalo All-Americans (9-1-1) claimed they should have been awarded the championship because they won more games.  Note: Decatur would later on become the Chicago Bears

The most famous Akron Pro was Fritz Pollard.  Fritz and Bobby Marshall were the first African American players in the NFL.  In 1921 while still playing Fritz was a co-head coach.  You can search for Fritz Pollard on You Tube and get more information on his remarkable Hall of Fame career.

Another fun fact about the first World Champs, they only allowed 7 points all year
